A Comprehensive Guide to Personalised Remembrance Gifts

That time the world came to an end....

Can you believe it’s been 4 years since the world came to standstill because of Covid 19? It was on the 23rd March that Boris Johnson announced a nationwide lockdown in the UK to prevent the spread of coronavirus (meanwhile there were parties being held at No.10, but we won't talk about that)!

Anyhow, I still remember feeling uneasy and on edge that week, I had just started a new job, we were up to eyeballs in a massive renovation project, my sister was undergoing treatment for stage four cancer and my first niece had just been born. I was worrying about my family, and I prepared myself for the worst, I even messaged my brother to tell my niece I loved her in case I never got to see her again. So, it’s almost like if there was a year for my sister to die, that was the year.

Throughout the year, people were dying, of all deaths registered in 2020 in England and Wales, 73,766 (12.1%) were due to coronavirus (COVID-19). I was touched by stories of people that I didn’t even know, it was truly heartbreaking, especially hearing about complex grief situations, whereby people were experiencing grief within grief. What made things even harder was people weren’t even able to say their goodbyes at funerals as these were restricted, we were a nation full of grief and loss.

As we approach the four-year mark of what was probably one of the most difficult years for our time, I’ve been thinking about all the people that died due to coronavirus and how we can remember them. Finding the right words or gestures to comfort someone when it’s the anniversary or birthday of losing a loved one, is difficult. That's why I've curated a comprehensive guide to remembrance gifts and memorial gifts that can offer support throughout the year. Remembering someone that has died doesn't have to be painful and we can remember them in a joyful way. Here's a few items that have brought me some joy over time.

Memorial Candles

Memorial candles are a thoughtful way to symbolise the memory of someone and keep their presence alive. We offer different memorial candles including personalised candles where you can customize the message and include a photo too. Here's a few of my favourites:

Our Personalised Remembrance Tealight Holder with Angel Wings can be used with either a small candle or a tealight. You can personalise this memorial tealight holder with your own message up to two lines, with up to 15 characters per line.

We also have a taller version of this for a floating candle option, fill the holder with water and add your own floating candle.

If you prefer LED Candles, then this LED Memorial Candle is ideal as it offers you the option to add your own photo and when this is lit up it looks so nice.

Remembrance Jewellery

Choosing jewellery for someone is difficult because it’s so personal. But I got my brother-in-law these personalised cufflinks with my sisters handwriting for his birthday. I managed to find an old birthday card that she had given me which had her handwriting. He was so touched by this gesture and there’s something about seeing your loved ones writing that connects you back to them.

Personalised Keepsakes

A personalised keepsake box is the perfect way to store special mementos and photos to remember your loved one. You can also use this to create your own sympathy gift box and include your favourite photo, a candle and a piece of jewellery.

There's no denying that it will always be hard when you remember someone that has died, that grief lives with you forever. I hope during these challenge times i'm able to offer some comfort through my website.

Take care and lots of love always.
